Three checkmarks, three different meanings
Blue is a subscription anyone can buy. Gold is for verified organisations. Grey is for government. Knowing which one you actually want saves most of this conversation.
How do you get verified on X?
X has three badges. The blue checkmark comes with an X Premium subscription, from roughly $8 per month, and requires a complete profile, a verified phone number and an account at least 30 days old — not notability. The gold checkmark is for businesses enrolled in Verified Organizations, a substantially more expensive tier. The grey checkmark is for government and multilateral bodies. Affiliate badges let an organisation verify its own staff accounts.
The blue checkmark no longer signals notability to anyone who understands the platform, because it is bought. If what you need is credibility rather than features, the gold organisation badge or an affiliate badge under one does considerably more work.
What each badge requires
- Blue — an X Premium subscription, a confirmed phone number, a complete profile, and no recent changes to the display name or photo
- Gold — enrolment in Verified Organizations, with the organisation confirmed as legitimate
- Grey — government or multilateral organisation status
- Affiliate — issued by a gold-verified organisation to its own people
- An account at least 30 days old and not recently created
- No recent platform manipulation or spam enforcement on the account

What we will not claim
- We will not charge you a markup on an X Premium subscription. It is a few dollars a month in your own settings.
- The blue checkmark does not signal notability and we will not sell it as though it does.
- A legacy verified account from before 2023 cannot be reinstated. That programme is gone.
- The platform decides. We prepare and submit the strongest honest case; nobody outside the platform can grant a badge, and anyone claiming an inside contact is lying to you.
