Glassdoor

Remove a Glassdoor review that breaks the guidelines

Glassdoor is built to protect anonymous employee speech, and it defends that position hard. The reviews that come down are the ones that break a specific rule.

Can you get a Glassdoor review removed?

Glassdoor removes reviews that breach its community guidelines — naming an individual, disclosing confidential or proprietary information, discriminatory or threatening language, reviews from someone who never worked there, or duplicate submissions. Reviews are flagged through the employer account. Glassdoor will not remove a review for being negative, and it actively protects anonymous employee speech, so the reviewer’s identity is never disclosed.

Never try to identify the reviewer. Glassdoor treats employer attempts to unmask or retaliate against reviewers as a serious violation, and in many jurisdictions retaliation against an employee for a review is independently unlawful. It is also the fastest way to turn one review into a news story.

Grounds Glassdoor acts on

  • A named individual — a manager, a colleague, anyone identifiable
  • Confidential or proprietary company information disclosed
  • Discriminatory language, threats, or harassment
  • The reviewer never worked at the company
  • A duplicate review of the same employment period
  • Content about a customer experience rather than employment
  • Allegations presented as fact that are demonstrably false

How a Glassdoor case runs

  1. 1

    Assessment

Each review matched to a specific guideline. The honest answer is "no grounds" more often on Glassdoor than anywhere else, and we give it before you pay.

  2. 2

    Evidence

Employment records where the claim is that the person never worked there; the specific confidential material where that is the ground.

  3. 3

    Flag from the employer account

Citing the guideline clause. A flag that says "this is unfair" is closed without a human reading it.

  4. 4

    Escalation

A declined flag goes to Glassdoor’s content team with the full record.

  5. 5

    Response strategy

Where there are no grounds, a measured employer response under the review is the realistic win, and we draft it.

  6. 6

    Proof

A screenshot of the profile without the review, and the rating before and after.

What we will not claim

  • A genuine former employee’s honest opinion is not removable, however damaging. Glassdoor exists to publish exactly that.
  • We will not attempt to identify a reviewer, and we will not help with anything that looks like retaliation.
  • We do not post fake positive reviews to bury a real one. Every platform detects it, the penalty is worse than the review was, and a business caught doing it loses the profile rather than the review.
  • The platform decides. We document the breach and escalate it; nobody outside the platform can delete a review, and anyone claiming an inside contact is lying to you.
