Remove a Facebook recommendation
Facebook is the one platform where you can switch the whole section off. That is sometimes right and usually not, and the difference is worth ten minutes before you touch it.
How do you remove a bad review from a Facebook Page?
A Page admin reports the recommendation from the post itself, and Facebook removes it where it breaches Community Standards — spam, harassment, hate speech, false identity, or content unrelated to the business. Facebook does not remove recommendations for being negative. A Page can also disable recommendations entirely in Page settings, which hides all of them, positive ones included, and removes the rating from the Page.
Turning recommendations off removes the bad ones and the good ones, and removes the star rating from the Page. It is a reasonable emergency measure during a brigading attack and a poor permanent setting, because a Page with no recommendations reads as a Page hiding something.
Grounds Facebook acts on
- Spam, or an obviously automated post
- Harassment, hate speech or threats
- A fake or impersonating account
- Content with no relationship to the business or the experience
- Personal information about staff or customers
- A coordinated brigading pattern across multiple accounts
How a Facebook case runs
- 1
Assessment
Community Standards breach, brigading pattern, or neither.
- 2
Brigading check
A sudden cluster of one-star recommendations from unconnected accounts is a different and much stronger report than six individual ones.
- 3
Report
Per post, from the Page admin account, citing the standard.
- 4
Escalation
Through Meta Business Support where the Page qualifies for it.
- 5
Advise on the switch
If recommendations should be turned off temporarily, we say so and say when to turn them back on.
- 6
Proof
A screenshot of the Page without the recommendation.
The specifics

- A coordinated brigading pattern, reported as a pattern
- Counts as delivered
- The recommendation is gone from the Page, evidenced by a screenshot
What we will not claim
- A genuine customer’s negative recommendation stays. Facebook does not adjudicate whether they were right.
- We do not post fake positive reviews to bury a real one. Every platform detects it, the penalty is worse than the review was, and a business caught doing it loses the profile rather than the review.
- We will not recommend disabling recommendations permanently to make a problem invisible. It replaces one bad signal with a worse one.
- The platform decides. We document the breach and escalate it; nobody outside the platform can delete a review, and anyone claiming an inside contact is lying to you.
