A Reddit thread ranking for your name
Reddit outranks most company websites and is now the single most-cited source in AI answers. A thread about you is a bigger problem than it used to be.
How do you get a Reddit post removed?
A Reddit post comes down in one of three ways: the author deletes it, a subreddit moderator removes it for breaking that subreddit’s rules, or Reddit itself removes it for breaching sitewide policy — doxxing, harassment, non-consensual imagery, or posting personal information. Reddit does not remove posts for being unflattering or commercially damaging. Where a post stays up, a separate request can be made to de-index the URL if a search engine policy applies.
Reddit is unusually hostile to visible reputation management, and an obvious removal attempt frequently causes the thread to be reposted with screenshots and more attention than it had. Everything here is filed quietly through the proper channels, and we will tell you when the correct advice is to leave it alone.
Grounds Reddit acts on
- Personal information — real name, address, workplace, phone number
- Harassment or a coordinated pile-on directed at an individual
- Non-consensual intimate imagery
- Impersonation of a person or a business
- Content breaking a specific subreddit rule, judged by its moderators
- Copyright infringement, through Reddit’s DMCA process
How a Reddit case runs
- 1
Assessment
Sitewide policy, subreddit rule, or neither. The third answer is common and we give it plainly.
- 2
Choose the channel
Moderators for a subreddit rule, Reddit directly for sitewide policy, the DMCA process for copyright. The wrong channel wastes the attempt.
- 3
File quietly
No public comment, no visible pressure on the poster, nothing that turns the removal into its own story.
- 4
De-index where it stays up
If the thread survives but contains personal information, the search result can still be addressed separately.
- 5
Proof and monitoring
Dated screenshots, then re-checks — reposts are the normal failure mode here.
The specifics
- Priced
- Per thread
- Strongest ground
- Personal information or harassment under sitewide policy
- Typical timeline
- 3 days to 4 weeks
- Why it matters more now
- Reddit is the most-cited domain in AI answers, so a thread shapes what assistants say about you
- Counts as delivered
- The thread no longer returns for the named query, evidenced by a dated screenshot
What we will not claim
- Honest criticism on Reddit is not removable, and trying is usually worse than leaving it. We will tell you that for free.
- We will not create accounts to downvote, bury, or argue with a thread. It is against Reddit’s rules, it is obvious, and it backfires loudly.
- Moderators are volunteers with their own judgement and no obligation to respond.
- Removal at the source beats de-indexing every time: it clears every search engine at once and it cannot be undone by a recrawl. We try the source first even when de-indexing is the cheaper job for us.
