A short, early or dictionary-word username — typically one to four characters, a first name, or a common noun.
Most were registered in a platform’s first years and are now held by dormant accounts. Platforms generally do not release or sell them, so transfers happen between holders.
A substantial part of this market runs on compromised accounts, where a handle is taken from its owner and resold.
Why it matters
A stolen handle returns to its original owner when they recover the account, and the buyer loses both the handle and the money. Proof of control and a signed release are the only protection.
