What is Global rank?
Also called: Alexa rank, Similarweb rank
Short answer
A website’s position in a ranking of all sites by traffic — commonly Similarweb rank now that Alexa has been discontinued.
Alexa, the rank everyone used to quote, was shut down by Amazon in May 2022. Any site still displaying an "Alexa rank" is showing a number that stopped updating years ago.
Similarweb’s global rank is the usual successor, with Ahrefs Rank as an alternative. Both are ordinal: the gap between rank 1,000 and 2,000 is enormous, while the gap between 400,000 and 401,000 is nothing.
Why it matters
Seeing a live Alexa rank on a media kit in 2026 tells you the seller has not checked their own numbers in four years.
